By the end of KS2, children should be confident with all four operations for written calculations. The National Curriculum demands higher expectations in English and Mathematics and the end of KS2 tests are far more demanding than in previous years. The recent tests have shown a requirement to apply mathematical knowledge to solve multi-step problems with a greater emphasis on ratio, proportion, and fractions.
National Curriculum English support.
By the end of KS 2, children should be reading a wide range of genres and should be able to comment and debate issues encountered. An accurate working knowledge of correct grammar usage in their writing is an expected element to enhance meaning together with the skills to develop setting, atmosphere and character.
The National Curriculum Tests, usually referred to as SATs, are compulsory for children at the end of Year 2 and Year 6. Children take tests in Reading, Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling and Mathematics.
I have a proven track record of home tutoring supported by my testimonials. In many cases, my experience has shown that where a child may be finding problems with aspects of English or Mathematics a one to one teaching session can boost confidence and lets the child experiment and progress at their own pace.
I have wealth of educational experience gained in innovative and creative schools. This can be combined with the latest e-technology to provide a seamless service in which I can continue to support the children's learning remotely.
Tim Browning was my form teacher during my time at Isham Cof E Primary school. He was an excellent teacher of many different subjects and made even the most benign seem interesting and enjoyable. For me his nurturing of my interest in mathematics has since played a huge part in my career through university to my role now with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. However, more importantly Tim instilled a confidence and belief in myself and my ability that I previously did not have (something that I imagine is a shared belief by many students that have been lucky enough to be taught by him). This has had a huge, positive impact on all aspects of my life, and for that, I cannot thank Tim enough.
Tim helped our son with Maths and a little English through KS1 to help reinforce the schoolwork. The 1 to 1 sessions really helped him to understand some of the basic numeracy. Tim made the exercises focused but fun so that our son hardly noticed he was actually working!
Tim has home tutored both of my children over the last 3 years, my son in year 4, 5 & 6 covering Maths and English and obviously preparation for SATS testing. With the fantastic help he received from Tim he did well in his SATS and felt more relaxed about doing them! My daughter had tutoring from year 2. Tim encouraged and believed in her giving her much more confidence in herself and she has come on massively. Tim engages with all children, he is kind, patient and so encouraging. Sarah Dolan
Tim has provided academic tutoring support to my son for over five years. Zak not only gained an in-depth understanding of mathematics but a real love of the subject. Tim taught maths to Zak in an imaginative and creative way that suited Zak’s character and needs. Zak, like many seven year old boys had a reluctance to write. Tim showed Zak that writing was just putting his thoughts and ideas onto paper and with handy tips and a raft of great techniques, Zak developed robust skills in grammar, writing and comprehension. Tim’s experience of working with children, for many years, shone through and his ability to enthuse Zak to reach his full potential was amazing. Zak achieved great results in his SATS but more importantly went well prepared and confident into the next stage of academic life at secondary school. Thank you, Tim.
Tim provided tutoring to my daughter, for four years, which has been instrumental in Anna’s love of learning. Anna gained a solid foundation and great confidence in mathematics which meant she has been able to progress very well at school. Anna has a real gift in her grasp of English language and loves English literature. Tim harnessed this and through many innovative ways encouraged Anna to write many different forms. Anna loved working with Tim, whom she saw as a kindred spirit, and is now determined to become an author one day!
Tim Browning is an excellent teacher and he has helped both my children with their Maths work. He is an exceptional professional, who prepares detailed and specific lessons tailored to your individual child to give them the support they need to make leaps forward with both their confidence and also Mathematical ability. He delivers each lesson with clarity and good humour which, in my opinion, is vital for helping children to learn! I have seen the confidence grow with both my girls, which they just wouldn’t have got within the normal school setting. His techniques work wonders and I feel incredibly lucky to have his expert tuition available right here in Herefordshire. A 5 star recommendation for any parent whose child needs a boost with any subject.
Do you have a teacher who positively impacted your life and whom you still remember fondly? My children (triplets) had the privilege of having such a teacher for their final 2 years of primary school. The teacher was Tim Browning and he didn’t simply inspire my children at school, he inspired them for life - especially my ‘youngest’ who is now looking toward to a career in primary school teaching.
To elaborate. Tim is kind natured, grounded and maintains a positive influence throughout. He treats his pupils with respect and commands respect in return. He does so, not with fear or bullying, but by building self-esteem and self-appreciation within his pupils. He uses constant encouragement and appropriate constraint where required.
On a personal note, during the nightmare divorce I was experiencing at the time, and despite every effort I could possibly make to cushion the impact on my children, I knew they suffered. However, I was lucky to be able to rely on Tim to provide the consistency and calm they so desperately needed whilst at school.
Finally, we all genuinely believe, without Tim, life for my trio would have been very different. Not only did he ensure their move to secondary school was effortless, but the foundation Tim builds for his pupils will last a lifetime. Tim is everything you expect of a teacher – and more.
